Un acercamiento al marqués de Sade

Abstract

This essay is an overview of Sade’s work and its relevance in the development of French libertine thought. It is here explained how the term “Sadism” was coined and how it made its way into the French tongue. Similarly, several biographical episodes are mentioned in order to clarify the reasons why the Marquis de Sade became an emblematic figure of the Enlightenment. Lastly —and with the inclusion of a number of theories by Klossowki, Blanchot, Bataille, and Pauvert— this discussion offers an insight into Sade’s stream of thought while it acquaints the readers wich peculiar yet enriching readings from Ost, Goulemot, Stewart, and Delon.
