Main Article Content
Abstract
As a result of the collaboration between the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the digital educational resources Data in Action. How to use statistical and geographic information for citizen participation was developed, aimed at young people between 15 and 18 years old. The educational resources Data in Action present the current situation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Mexico and the world and propose that students in Upper Secondary Education develop data literacy and sustainability skills based on access, interpretation, production, communication and use of statistical and geographic information. The purpose is to promote citizen participation based on the use of data. The objective of this paper is to assess the educational resources Data in Action, from the perspective of data literacy and sustainable development, to contribute to promoting the citizen participation of young people in Mexico. To this end, the theoretical foundations of literacy in data, sustainable development and citizen participation are recovered as basic references to examine the components of resources. Likewise, the results of the classroom test of some of the materials are included, to assess their possibilities of use in Upper Secondary Education. Among the results obtained, it stands out that the educational resources Data in Action are characterized by being an innovative didactic proposal that articulates data literacy and sustainable development. The resources integrate topics, learning activities and citizen projects aimed at developing competencies for the use of statistical and geographic data linked to situations and problems of interest to young people.
