Abstract

This essay explores the images of women in the Restoration period and Eighteenth
century in England in order to establish a continuum of women’s literary tradition
in this century. The double standard, the social, political and economical situation of
women are studied, as well as the rise of the first women novelists in the Eighteenth
century. A feminist perspective is employed to examine the literary creation
of women.
