Abstract

This text briefly considers several philosophical theories which support or criticize the idea of theodicy in Modernity. These theories are interpreted through the relation of faith understood as filial love with physical pain, and how this relation acquires importance in theodicies and their critic. The confrontation between a general structure such as theodicies and the intimacy of pain is understood through the relation between system and individual.
