Abstract

The text reviews the basic assumption of Anaximander’s currently most widespread interpretation. It points out some limitations of this reading and underlines the critical need to find alternatives, highlighting especially the interpretations that assume the link between mythology and philosophy in the dawn of Greek thought. The interpretation of Apeiron, based on its Greek mythical-poetic meaning, provides a different view of Anaximander’s usual image.
