Abstract

This paper tackles Rafael Landivar’s Rusticatio Mexicana from the argumentative point of view, introducing it into what has been called the dispute of the New World. Rusticatio Mexicana is here interpreted as an answer to a series of ideas about the American continent which were popular at the time, this answer being
an example of how identities are built up by discourse.
