La España "cóncava" de Ramón Gaya

Abstract

The painter and writer Ramón Gaya (1910-2005) might be one of the most forgotten among the intellectuals exiled due to the Spanish Civil War. It’s to his facet as a writer that we dedicate special attention: his texts on Cervantes and don Quijote, on Galdós, on Velázquez, and the Prado Museum, etc., offer us a faithful portrait, yet not because of that submissive, of the Spain that he and many other Republicans wanted to save from the tragic consequences of the Civil War and that they tried to safeguard through memory and art. We dedicate space also to the analysis of the meaning that the terms miracle, genius and concavity have in the work of the exiled and of the role they play in his artistic proposal.
