Abstract

The purpose of this article is to explore the dramatic possibilities of a number of political concepts in plays like Richard II, Macbeth, and King Lear. The argument
of this exploration is based upon the assumption that a possible antithesis between political prosaicism and poetical grandiloquence provokes moral, rhetorical, and
representational peculiarities in some of Shakespeare’s most politically active characters.
